Woodpark Community Association – Our Work

The bulk of the work of the WCA can be divided into the following categories:

Traffic and Parking Committee

The Traffic and Parking Committee seeks to identify and resolve traffic and parking issues in the neighbourhood. Recent and ongoing work includes monitoring parking issues with car dealership employees, traffic surveys to evaluate speeding and non-local traffic in the neighbourhood and liaising with our ward councillor and Ottawa Police to have greater enforcement of illegal left turns on to Richmond Road.

Your Traffic and Parking Committee members are Don Ford and John Blatherwick.

Communications

The Communications Committee strives to keep Woodpark residents in the loop about neighbourhood events, initiatives issues and news. Recent and ongoing work include the redevelopment of this web site, creating the twice-yearly "Woodpark News" newsletter, and constructing new sandwich boards. We have also created an email distribution list for neighbourhood news.

Zoning and Development

The Zoning and Development Committee acts as a community resource for land use and development matters potentially affecting the Woodpark community.

This committee reviews all zoning-related City of Ottawa documents forwarded to the WCA as part of the public notification process and flags any potential issues to the WCA and affected Woodpark residents. It also responds to development proposals and applications, attends any related meetings and hearings, and prepares and files appeals where zoning or variances are contested on behalf of the WCA and Woodpark residents.

This committee seeks to balance the need for development with ensuring that the quality of life and character of the neighbourhood are protected.

Your Zoning and Development Commitee Chair is John Blatherwick. The full Zoning and Development Committee is comprised by the WCA Board.
