100 Trees for Woodpark

Updated: Apr 2

Hello Woodparkers,

As proud residents of our vibrant Woodpark community, we have a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on our neighbourhood. The Woodpark Tree Team is thrilled to announce our exciting new initiative: “100 Trees for Woodpark”. Our goal? To plant 100 trees across our community by October 2024.

Why should you participate? Here are some great reasons:

  1. Increased Property Value: Did you know that trees can add to your property’s value? By planting a tree on your property, you’re not only enhancing its beauty but also making a smart investment in your home. Imagine the shade, privacy, and aesthetic appeal a well-placed tree can bring to your yard!

  2. Energy Savings: Trees are nature’s air conditioners. Strategically planted trees can reduce your air conditioning consumption by up to 30 percent in your home! They also provide cooling shade in your outdoor space and deflect cold winds.

  3. Improved Air Quality: Trees are environmental superheroes. They absorb pollutants and remove fossil fuel emissions from the atmosphere. Cleaner air means a healthier Woodpark for all of us.

  4. Better Mental Health: Trees positively impact our well-being. Studies show that areas with a 30 percent tree canopy have a 31 percent lower risk of psychological distress. Whether you’re gazing out of your window or enjoying a leisurely walk, trees contribute to our mental and emotional health.

  5. Sustained Wildlife: Trees serve as vital habitats for birds, insects, and other wildlife. By planting a tree, you’re creating a year-round haven for our local fauna. It’s a win-win—food and shelter for them, and a more vibrant Woodpark for us.

How can you get involved?

  1. Join our Info Session: We are hosting an online information session on the 100 Trees Initiative on April 3rd at 7:00pm. Register now to attend and learn about the initiative and ask any questions you may have. Postponed to April 10

  2. Buy a Tree with the Woodpark Community Association: : Visit our website at woodpark.ca/I Want A Tree  to express your interest in participating in the Woodpark Community Associations’s  group buy of trees.  Homeowners will be responsible for paying for their own trees but if enough people are interested in buying trees we hope to be able to negotiate a discount on the trees and delivery. A local arborist has put together a list, woodpark.ca/Tree-Resources - a great mix of trees that will thrive in our warming climate.

  3. Source and plant a tree on your own: If you’d like to plant a tree outside of the group buy, we’d still love to know you’re planting a tree so we can count it towards our goal of planting 100 trees by October 2024! Simply email us at treeteam@woodpark.ca to let us know you’ve planted a tree.

  4. Get the City to Plant a Tree on the City-owned property in front of your home through the Trees in Trust Program: Visit ottawa.ca/forestry or call 3-1-1 to request a tree.

  5. Spread the Word: Encourage your Woodparker neighbours and friends to join us. Forward this email or share our posts on social media, and let’s create a buzz about our tree-planting mission.

  6. Join the Tree Team! We are always looking for volunteers to help us make Woodpark as vibrant and healthy a community as we can. Email us at treeteam@woodpark.ca if you are interested in volunteering!

Remember, every tree we plant contributes to a greener, healthier, and more beautiful Woodpark. Let’s make our neighbourhood a shining example of community-driven environmental stewardship.

Warm regards,

The Tree Team of the Woodpark Community Association
