Proposed OCDSB Boundary Change

Dear Woodpark Neighbors,

I am writing with urgency and deep concern about the proposed OCDSB boundary changes, which, if approved, will have devastating consequences for our community. These changes undermine the board’s stated goals of equity, inclusion, and keeping kids in their neighborhoods. As can be seen by the proposed boundaries (see attached EPR map made by parent Marissa Hill-Keast), Woodpark is being unfairly targeted, and we must act now.

For decades, Woodroffe Public School has been the heart of our community—a thriving K-8 French Immersion school that draws families to live here. Generations of children have walked to school, forming strong bonds with their teachers, peers, and neighborhood.

Now, in a sudden and drastic shift, children as young as three will be forced to take a bus to Regina Public School or walk nearly an hour—rather than a short, safe walk to their local school. This directly contradicts the board’s commitment to keeping kids in their communities.

How This Hurts Woodpark Families:

  • Families will face logistical chaos. Parents will struggle with multiple school pickups and drop-offs, affecting work schedules and even job security—particularly for mothers, who statistically bear the brunt of caregiving.

  • Home values will decline. Families move to Woodpark for its top-tier, walkable French Immersion school. Without it, future buyers will look elsewhere, shifting the character of our community.

  • Our children will lose their thriving learning environment. Woodroffe’s dedicated kindergarten wing, built just eight years ago at great cost, is a proven success with six full kindergarten classes. Now, our teachers face job uncertainty, and our youngest students may end up in portables at an overburdened Regina Public School.

  • This plan ignores Woodpark’s growth. Our population is expected to increase from 2,500 to as many as 15,000 residents in the next two decades. We need more schools, not fewer.

A Flawed, Illogical Plan

The board’s plan appears to be driven by budget cuts—not student well-being. Instead of strengthening communities, it shuffles children around to force-fit artificial solutions:

  • Woodpark’s youngest children are being sent to Regina to fill a struggling FI program.

  • In return, students from as far as Bayshore are being shipped to Woodroffe to fill an English program that was never in demand here.

  • Meanwhile, neighboring communities like Broadview and D. Roy Kennedy only benefit—gaining FI programs while excluding Woodpark children.

This is not equity. This is not community-building. This is an unjust and reckless decision that will have lasting consequences.

We Must Act Now

Over 1,000 parents, teachers, and residents are speaking out against this disastrous proposal. If we do not stop this now, we risk losing what makes Woodpark a strong, family-centered community.

Join us in fighting back. There are some links below to help get started. Please join us in writing letters, signing petitions and  discussions. Our children, our teachers, and Woodpark deserve better.
